Jonathan Copeland

As a lifelong clarinetist, Jonathan Copeland has seen how hard it can be to find an instrument that plays the way it should—especially at an accessible price. Buying new doesn’t always mean getting quality craftsmanship, and too often, players are held back by instruments that simply don’t live up to their potential.

That’s why he started Copeland Clarinets: to offer hand-selected, professionally restored clarinets that play better than new—and now, to provide the same level of precision and care through professional repair services. Every clarinet he sells or services is brought to life on his bench, with the knowledge and attention that only comes from someone who knows how a clarinet should truly feel and respond.

He holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from Middle Tennessee State University and spent 9 years as a clarinet repair specialist at Onks Woodwind Specialists before launching his own full-time shop. What began as a passion for matching players with great instruments has grown into a complete clarinet workshop—offering premium repairs, curated pre-owned models, and his own line of high-quality clarinets.

Ashley Copeland

Ashley Copeland is a Knoxville, Tennessee native who holds a double Bachelor of Music Education degree from Middle Tennessee State University. During her nearly 15-year career as a public school music educator, she served as Tennessee General Music Education Association President, worked on the Country Music Hall of Fame Words & Music curriculum committee, presented at the 2022 KySTE Conference, won multiple grants to bring instruments into the hands of her students, and consistently led her classroom with highly-engaging and innovative lessons. After leaving the classroom in 2023, Ashley joined her husband in working with their small business, Copeland Clarinets, located near their home in Shelbyville, Kentucky, where she continues to work part-time as General Manager. In addition to the business, Ashley enjoys being a full-time mom to their daughter Shelby Grace, planning events and vacations as a hobby, serving in their local church and community, and snuggling their two doodle pups, Chandler and Piper. Ashley is a professional member of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity and the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce.

Upon completion of a complete overhaul to my clarinet, I was so thrilled by their superior workmanship and customer service that I immediately sent in my A clarinet. The Willow is easily the most beautiful sounding and looking clarinet. We never would have been able to purchase without the Copeland's price point. And Jonathon and Ashley are seriously the best! I have several instruments I’ve bought from him and have trusted him with consignment sales. I can’t recommend him high enough! If you need a quality instrument at a price you can afford, talk to him. If you have an issue with your clarinet, he can fix it. If you need a good bell or barrel to improve what you have, he’s your guy! If you just need some advice on your instrument, he’ll be glad to give it.  I love that his family is involved, that they are working together to make an honest and trustworthy business. You really can not go wrong with Clarinets by Copeland!

He’s highly knowledgeable and is able to suggest possible instrument fits based on his customers’ description of their concerns.  His work is exceptional, his customer service is unmatched, and his dedication to his craft is obvious.  I will return to Jonathan for any future instrument purchases or repairs. He is a pleasure to work with and kept me updated while working on my instruments. I highly recommend him. The tension on the keys is perfect, no loud key clicks, fixed bended keys and many other things. The instruments also look a lot better physically . We were referred to Clarinets by Copeland from his Tudor and as it turned out, after some discussion, we actually met and talked with Jonathan last year at a Clarinet day event and were super impressed with his knowledge and evident passion for clarinets. In short my sons instrument is playing better now than it ever has. His process is fast and efficient, and like he says the instrument came back to us better than new. We will definitely be using him exclusively now for any and all service. Thanks again Jonathan.
