Joey Burgos
Joseph “Joey” Burgos is a clarinetist and bass clarinetist based in the Washington, D.C./Virginia area. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he studied with Dr. Cassandra Hibbard. He recently earned a Master of Music Degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where his primary instructor was Professor Howard Klug. During his time at IU, Joey served as Associate Instructor of Clarinet where he taught collegiate Clarinet lessons and Technique Classes. During the summers of 2021 and 2022, he attended the MasterWorks Festival, studying under Dr. Harry Hill and performing under the batons of Ken-David Masur, Delta David Gier, and Miriam Burns. In 2022, Joey was featured as a soloist in the premiere of a new composition at ClarinetFest in Reno, Nevada. He currently serves as the resident clarinetist and saxophone doubler with the Adirondack Performing Arts Festival in upstate New York.
A dedicated educator, Joey is passionate about clarinet pedagogy and maintains a thriving private studio. His students have earned top honors, including first chair in the Indiana Junior All-State Band and positions in the Indiana Senior All-State Band. They have also performed with the ISO Side-by-Side program and in collegiate ensembles at Indiana University. Joey is currently a Doctoral student and Clarinet TA at the University of Memphis.
Joey currently plays on a set of Copeland Harmonia Bb and A clarinets. When asked why he wanted to become a Copeland Artist, he said, “I was blown away by the quality of the instruments as well as the obvious love and care that Jonathan and Ashley have for the company and for their customers. I see a very bright future for Clarinets by Copeland, and it’s something that I’m honored to be a part of!” Outside of music, Joey enjoys reading, a good cup of coffee, spending time with loved ones, and playing video games!
